Big Feed 2007 proved to be another
amazing event for the Kingdom of Heaven. Over two days Way of the
Cross saw close to 5,000 salvations and fed over 6,000 people.
Phillip and I had the privilege of being a part of the Big Feed from
the ground up this year.
We had a group of people from the First
Baptist Church of
Bay City, Texas
join us this year for the Big Feed and our team was put on the
set-up crew. On the 28th, while most of the other teams
had evangelistic services (with salvations totaling over 1,000
souls), our team worked at the Big Feed grounds to set everything
up. It is a lot of work to set up tents, games, grills, and get all
the toys and prizes to the site. We had the blessing of being able
to work side by side with many of our Mexican pastors and their
wives as they pitched in to do whatever was needed to make the Big
Feed possible.
On the 29th our team
arrived at the grounds around 7:00 am (joined by George and Charlene
Whiteaker of Raymondville, TX), a couple of hours ahead of the other
teams. We continued setting up, started cooking chicken on the
grills and helped to prepare the pinto beans we would later serve.
Around 9:30 the other teams began arriving and the Big Feed began.
It
didn’t take long for the grounds to be filled with people.
Everywhere you looked there were people playing games, winning
prizes, listening to music, getting raffle tickets, but most
importantly, there were people coming to know the Lord.
At every station, every game, before every raffle,
the Gospel message was preached. It is the heart of the Big Feed,
the whole reason for us being there, that we may share the good news
of Jesus Christ to all who will listen. At the end of the day, when
the chicken and beans had been served and the games had all been put
away, we knew that God had moved upon that field in Mexico and the angels
were rejoicing for the nearly 4,000 souls that accepted Jesus into
their hearts that day.
